What if the greatest leadership advantage isn't artificial intelligence... but authentic human intelligence?
That question sat at the center of my recent conversation with Mari Smith, internationally recognized as the "Queen of Facebook" and now an IHDS Certified Human Design Analyst as well as my Profit Potential buddy.
For nearly two decades, Mari has been one of the world's most respected voices in social media marketing. Today, she's bringing together her deep expertise in digital marketing with Human Design to help leaders build businesses rooted in trust, alignment, and authentic connection.
As we talked, one message became crystal clear:
The future of leadership is human.
One of my favorite moments from our conversation came when Mari shared that understanding yourself is the first step to understanding how to lead others.
It's easy to assume that everyone thinks, communicates, and makes decisions the same way we do. But when we begin to understand our own design, our strengths, our natural decision-making process, and the way we're wired, we stop expecting everyone else to lead, learn, or communicate like us.
That shift changes everything.
Great leadership isn't about developing one communication style that works for everyone.
It's about understanding yourself well enough to recognize and honor the uniqueness of the people around you.
Artificial intelligence dominated much of our conversation, but perhaps not in the way you might expect.
Neither of us believes AI is something to fear.
In fact, AI is an incredible tool.
It can help us brainstorm ideas, organize information, and save valuable time.
But it cannot replace intuition or discernment.
It cannot replace self-trust or emotional intelligence.
And it certainly cannot replace authentic relationships.
As Mari shared, AI should augment human intelligence—not replace our humanity.
In a world where automation is becoming easier every day, genuine human connection becomes even more valuable.
For years, leadership has often been built around strategies, systems, and formulas.
But people don't follow formulas, they follow people they trust.
One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation is that authenticity isn't just a personal value anymore it's a leadership advantage.
When leaders understand who they are, they naturally create environments where others feel safe to do the same.
That creates healthier teams.
Better communication.
More innovation.
And stronger businesses.
Human Design isn't about putting people into boxes.
It's about helping people understand the unique way they're designed to move through the world.
When leaders begin recognizing that every person processes information, makes decisions, and contributes differently, leadership becomes less about managing people and more about empowering them.
Instead of asking, "Why can't they do it the way I do?"
we begin asking, "What brings out the best in this person?"
That's a powerful shift.
It's More Authentic.
Technology will continue to evolve.
AI will become faster, automation will become smarter.
But the leaders who thrive won't simply be the ones who adopt the newest technology.
They'll be the ones who know themselves, lead with integrity, and know how to build trust.
Leaders who create meaningful relationships and embrace their unique strengths while making space for the strengths of others.
That's human-centered leadership.
And I believe it's exactly where we're headed.
One idea stayed with me long after our conversation ended:
Leadership isn't about becoming someone else.
It's about becoming more fully yourself and de-conditioning from who you were told to be.
When we stop trying to fit into someone else's definition of success and begin leading from our own authentic design, we don't just transform our businesses, we transform the people around us.
If you're curious about what leadership looks like in an AI-powered world—and why authenticity may be your greatest competitive advantage—I invite you to listen to this episode with Mari Smith.
Because the future doesn't belong to those who master technology.
It belongs to those who master themselves.
